May 4-28
Local Eugene artist, Tony Brown, is a mixed media guru! Tony is a returning solo artist to Mecca and we are glad to showcase his colorful and creative work during the month of May. Each piece cleverly correlates with the title of the exhibit. Come by our opening reception to meet and greet the artist. Be sure to stop by to see this truly unique reuse artist.
at the Imagine Gallery
35 E. 8th Ave.
A benefit for MECCA. Local artists rescue items from the landfill and turn them into ART! Over 15 artists will be showing their re-imagined art pieces - folk art painted furniture by Jane Conley; mobiles, jewelry and collages by Cliff Martin; jewelry by Emily Mosaics, Toni Zybell, Lisa Lusk, and Boozy Baubles; glass bottle art by the Mazet brothers; Crack-Me-Up Clocks by Janeice Scofield; metal art by Merle Rothweiller; and fabulous juried pieces by a variety of local artists! 50% of all sales (except Toni Zybell glass) sold between 5pm and 9pm on the night of ArtWalk will be donated to MECCA. During the month of May, 40% of juried exhibit piece sales will be donated to MECCA. You will never look at your recycling the same!

MECCA (Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts) once again presents the Object Afterlife Art Challenge, a unique opportunity for the arts community. A chance for artists to brave a new approach to their creative process while participating in an awareness raising community event. In an effort to bridge the worlds of fine art and scrap art, we challenge artists to create thought-provoking, intentional works with scrap materials provided by MECCA. Artists will be given two months to complete their creation. Artwork will be chosen for awards in multiple categories. This challenge encourages artists to work outside their usual mediums or incorporate scrap materials into their art. Based on submitted information, our staff will choose objects for each participant to use in the work created for this challenge. The artist can use all or part of the objects given and is free to incorporate other materials and mediums as well. Artwork submitted can be made available for purchase during the exhibition. The artwork created for this event will be on exhibit downtown during the Eugene Celebration, August 24, 25 & 26, and throughout September. Our intention is to connect with and promote the local art community, inspire the creative use of scrap materials, raise awareness of our universal need to re-imagine the objects surrounding us, and most of all, to have a fun and creative experience! Entry fee is $15. Applications are due June 14, 2012. Materials will be distributed to artists on June 23. Gallery submission contracts will be given at that time. Artists will be given $10 of MECCA money for participating. Display ready art is due by August 22.
