Donating materials to MECCA:
People always ask us, what can I donate to MECCA? What does MECCA sell in the store? "All sorts of things!" We reply.
When you donate materials to us, we always gladly accept art supplies in usable condition like beads, art and crafts paints, rubber stamps, paper pads and rolls (partially used or otherwise), yarn and other knitting or crochet supplies, artificial flowers, tools, and fabric as well as more unusual items like old photos (especially black & white), broken jewelry, wine corks, power tools, bird houses, pasta makers, and scrap metal. While we take your scraps, we cannot take your trash.
When donating materials to MECCA, please be thoughtful and consider the usability of your donations. Unfortunately, when we're given bags of trash it costs us time, money and volunteer power than can be used in better areas. Trash collection is one of our main overhead costs, please help us keep it low by not donating unusable material. MECCA is a reuse store, not a recycling center. As always, feel free to call MECCA with any questions about donations.
While we appreciate your enthusiasm for recycling, we do get inundated with materials like plastic yogurt lids and other assorted plastic packaging, egg cartons, fabric scraps, etc. Please call before bringing these types of materials to check if we have adequate room for more.
Donations can ONLY be received during store hours: Tuesday - Friday 11-6 and Saturday 11-5. Please DO NOT dump donations outside our building when we are closed, as it is a violation of our lease agreement, looks terrible, and may cause your donation to be stolen before it is received.
We unfortunately can't take the following materials: Clothing or shoes, dirty or moldy items, pet food containers or bags, hazardous waste such as unidentified paint, glue, or powder, 16mm film, computer parts, electronics, styrofoam, packing peanuts, foam, twist ties, tiny scraps of fabric, string, or yarn- less than 1/4 yard.
If you would like to donate materials that don't easily fit into the category of "art supplies in usable condition," please contact us before you bring them to the store.
A fairly extensive list of the kinds of materials we like to carry at MECCA can be found here.
Due to the nature of our organization, our stock can change drastically from day to day, and we may not be able to accept some materials even if we have accepted them in the past. If we have an abundant quantity of a certain material (scrap fabric, cardboard tubes, etc.), we lack adequate storage for back stock and cannot accept more.
Other community resources include Bring Recycling, St. Vincent de Paul, Next Step Recycling, and Lane County Waste Management
