Join us! Artist Reception and Award Celebration on September 2, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
With the mission to connect scrap and fine art, MECCA challenged over 100 artists to make inspiring, thought-provoking, and creative works of art out of a mystery box of materials and just 2 months. Come and see what they created!
Join us for the exhibit opening of MECCA's 8th annual Object Afterlife Art Challenge from 6-8pm, Friday, Sept. 2. Celebrity judges will award prizes and you can cast your vote for the viewer's choice award. Award Ceremony begins at 7. The opening is FREE. Libations provided by our friends at Lagunitas Brewing Co and Oakshire Brewing.
And be sure to join us on October 7 for Art Walk where we will announce the Viewer's Choice Award!
MECCA (Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts) once again presents the Object Afterlife Art Challenge, a unique opportunity for the arts community. In an effort to bridge the worlds of fine art and scrap art, we challenge artists to create thought-provoking, intentional works with scrap materials provided by MECCA. This is a chance for artists to brave a new approach to their creative process while participating in an awareness raising event. Artists will be given two months to complete their creation. This challenge encourages artists to work outside their usual mediums or incorporate scrap materials into their art. Based on submitted information, we will choose objects for each participant to use in the work created for this challenge. The artist can use all or part of the objects given and is free to incorporate other materials and mediums as well. Changing or swapping given materials will not be allowed.
The artwork created for this event will be on exhibit at MECCA throughout September and shown during the First Friday Art Walk. Our intention is to connect and promote the local art community, inspire the creative use of scrap materials, raise awareness of our universal need to re-imagine the objects surrounding us, and most of all, to have a fun and creative experience! We welcome children to participate in this challenge as well.
Call to Artists is now closed! Thank you to all who signed up!
