Workshops for Adults

Printmaking

8 classes: Tuesdays, January 12 - March 2, 6-9pm
Fee: $85 Member cost: $75
Most materials included. (Set of woodcutting tools needed. Bring your own or purchase at 1st class for $10)
Instructor: Perry Joseph

In this class you'll explore the fine art of woodcut printmaking from one of Eugene's most exceptional printmaking artists. You will use our professional-grade etching press to create one of kind prints from your own carvings. Please come prepared with at least one drawing (any medium) or photograph to work from. Also in this class, you will be introduced to Collagraphy printmaking. Collagraphs are a great way to approximate etching effects without using chemicals or acid baths. Tones and textures are built up on a mat board matrix using glue and various materials such as fabric and papers. The mat board matrix is then printed intaglio, like an etching or engraving. Multiple prints can be pulled from each matrix.




Basic Sewing Skills for Adults

Tuesday April 6-May 11 6-8:30pm
Fee: $75 Member cost: $65
All materials included.
Instructor: Nancy Hines

In this class, Nancy will give you an overview of a sewing machine and basic maintenance, various stitches, cloth grain, pattern making, basic quilting,sewing your own simple garment and more. Nancy's vast experience and creative spirit will inspire you, whether you're new to the world of sewing or just want to brush up on your skills. MECCA has 6 sewing machines available and class will be limited to this number of students unless there are students who can bring machines from home. All other materials and tools included.

Intermediate Sewing Skills for Adults

Monday April 5-May 10 6:30-9pm
Fee: $75 Member cost: $65

Instructor: Nancy Hines

Ready for the next step in sewing? Making your own clothes or home accessories-This very informative class will allow you to choose the pattern you would like to construct, just pick an easy one (save the difficult ones for later!) Bring your sewing machine, pattern, choice of fabric (pre-washed) and notions to class and get ready to sew. You will be instructed on pattern sizing specific to your size (if applicable), pattern layout and much, much more. You will also learn how to sew in a zipper and make button holes using sample materials provided by MECCA. Pre-requisite-Must know how to operate a sewing machine and be able to stitch a straight seam. MECCA has 6 sewing machines on site that may be used by students but be warned, they can be temperamental.

Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Instructor: Nancy Hines

In this class, Nancy will introduce children to hand stitching as well as teaching them how to use the sewing machine to create simple projects. Nancy's vast experience and creative spirit will inspire children as they learn to make their own bean bags and other fun projects. MECCA has eight sewing machines available and class will be limited to this number of students unless some students can bring machines from home. All other materials and tools included.

(Drop-in Workshops For Kids)


Join us for some creative family time!

We offer hands-on recycle art workshops for kids on the first Saturday of each month. No need to preregister, just drop in any time between 11am - 3pm. All materials are included for each workshop. We ask for a $3-$5 sliding scale donation per child. Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. Each month features a different creative reuse project.

February 2010 Drop-in classes:
Winged Creatures (birds, dragons, etc.), March 6th
Fabric vases with PD Frasure as guest teacher, March 13th
Birdfeeders/houses, March 20th
Kites with Suzy as guest teacher, March 27th
You can also come by during any open hours for uninstructed creative play time. Just browse our many arts and crafts reference books and then, for a donation, you can use the studio and materials on hand at MECCA to to create recycled arts and crafts. So if you're looking for something fun to do with the kids this summer, come on over to MECCA!
