Kids and Family Crafting
Saturday, April 20, May 18 & June 8 · $5 donation per kiddo
11 am – 12pm Quiet crafting, 12 pm – 2pm Open to everyone. Drop in, no registration required.

Calling all creative kiddos (and kids at heart) to make various crafts in our studio with early childhood educator Nellie Huggins. Projects rotate each month. You’ll have all the fun and leave with a handmade creation to take away.

Object Afterlife Art Challenge
Show Opening October 6th – Closes October 31st, 2023

With a mission to connect unwanted materials and fine art, participants are given a mystery box of materials, a MECCA gift certificate, and a few months to create. The resulting artworks exist in the space where artistic discovery and conservation meet, inspiring us all to think differently about the materials we may consider waste. The exhibit opens in October in the MECCA gallery. 2023 applications have closed.

Create Something Day

One of our favorite events for kids (and kids at heart) is our annual Create Something Day event. Each holiday season we come together in our community art studio to make gifts for friends and loved ones. The activities change each year, but we’ll always create MECCA Monsters, one-of-a-kind stuffed creatures made from fabric remnants and funky bits and pieces.

Fashion Camp, Upcycled Festival Wear
June 25 – 28. 12:30 – 4:30pm

Learn how to repurpose old clothes into trendy festival outfits that are as unique as the person making them. Our expert instructors and designers will guide you through the process of creating your own clothing, accessories, and festival fashions. Campers will leave with one-of-a-kind pieces they’ll be sure to love. Get ready to unleash your inner fashion designer!

Join MECCA for a magical summer camp experience filled with spells, wand and broom making, and enchanting adventures. Our camp is perfect for aspiring wizards and witches looking to hone their magical skills. And get a little creative along the way.

During the camp, participants will learn the art of wand-making, discover their own personal cryptid, and make a custom spell book. Our experienced instructors will guide campers through a week of fun and learning in the creative world of upcycled magical arts.

Folklore Arts

Welcome to the Folklore Arts Summer Camp at MECCA! We’ll discover folklore arts through hands-on activities, workshops, and more. Discover the beauty of traditional crafts including candlemaking, Pennsylvania Hexagonal symbols, gnome and fairy making and discovery of an inspirational animal. Our experienced instructors will guide you through various folklore art techniques with related stories and traditions. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of folklore arts with us this summer!

Get ready to unleash your creativity and revamp your wardrobe just in time for the new school year. Our camp will teach you how to transform old clothes into trendy new pieces using sustainable upcycling techniques.

Upcycled Fashion Camp will provide all the materials and guidance you need to create one-of-a-kind fashion statements. Whether a beginner or a seasoned upcycler, this camp is perfect for anyone looking to add a personal touch to their style.

Come join us for a fun-filled day of fashion and sustainability. 

Need a place to create? Looking for inspiration? Our studio is located in the MECCA store and is always open during open hours. It is open to the public and is pay-by-donation. We suggest $3-$5/hour per person. Studio fees include space, supplies, and anything from our pay-what-you-can section. Supplies from the main store can be purchased separately.

Studio space is available on a drop-in basis. However, if you are with a group or will need extra room, please give us a call at 541-302-1810.

Have a creative kiddo or group of friends and looking for a creative place for a gathering or party? We host birthday parties for kids and gatherings for creative adults. We’ll come up with a project based on your interests or you can tell us what you want to make and we’ll go from there.

Parties cost $175 for two hours and include instruction, supplies, and a project to take away. Food isn’t included but you’re welcome to bring treats from home.
