Calling all creative kiddos (and kids at heart) to make various crafts in our studio with early childhood educator Nellie Huggins. Projects rotate each month. You’ll have all the fun and leave with a handmade creation to take away.

How to Make Money from your Art

Thanks to a Youth Empowerment Grant grant from the City of Eugene Rec Department, MECCA is offering an exciting opportunity for youth artists ages 14-18 who want to learn how to become working artists and make money from their artforms. This Youth Art Series: How to Make Money from your Art consists of 8 workshops, relevant to a variety of disciplines of visual arts and crafts, that draw upon the experience of actual working artists to offer insight and strategies in the following topics:

Topics and Dates:

1. Sourcing Materials for your art and creating a functional workspace- Thursday, Nov 7th 3:30-5:30

2. Marketing yourself as an Arts Brand- Portfolio and Artist statement development- Tuesday, Nov 12th 3:30-5:30

3. Doing a gallery show from Application to hanging your art- Thursday, Nov 21st 3:30-5:30

4. Productize your art to sell- and how to display your work- Thursday, Dec 5th 3:30-5:30

5. Pricing your art and crafts- Tuesday, December 10th 3:30-5:30 pm

6. Design your booth and what to expect when doing a market- Tuesday, December 17th 3:30-5:30 pm

7.Create a workshop in your artform- make money through teaching- Thursday, December 19th 3:30-5:30

8. The Show- Gallery, market and youth taught workshop event open to the public- Saturday, December 21st  12-4 pm

Create Something Day

Dec 7 from 1:00 – 4:00pm

One of our favorite events for kids (and kids at heart) is our annual Create Something Day event. Each holiday season we come together in our community art studio to make gifts for friends and loved ones. The activities change each year, but we’ll always create MECCA Monsters, one-of-a-kind stuffed creatures made from fabric remnants and funky bits and pieces.

Winter Solstice Workshop

Welcome to our Winter Solstice Workshop: Hearth Brooms & Dipped Beeswax Candles! Join us for a cozy event where you’ll learn how to craft your own hearth brooms with Mitra Gruwell and dip beeswax candles with Tenar Flynn. Embrace the winter season and celebrate the return of the light by crafting with us at MECCA. Hot cider and cocoa are provided!

Stained Glass Mushroom Workshop with April Reign

Come join us for a fun and creative workshop where you’ll learn how to make your very own stained glass mushroom with the talented glass artist April Reign. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to customize your own glass mushroom. With options to make a suncatcher or a planter, we will use basic soldering techniques to achieve a cute and whimsical design. This is a mixed media workshop with a focus on beginning stained glass skill building. All materials will be provided.

COMMUNITY STUDIO

Need a place to create? Looking for inspiration? Our studio is located in the MECCA store and is always open during open hours. It is open to the public and is pay-by-donation. We suggest $3-$5/hour per person. Studio fees include space, supplies, and anything from our pay-what-you-can section. Supplies from the main store can be purchased separately.

Studio space is available on a drop-in basis. However, if you are with a group or will need extra room, please give us a call at 541-302-1810.

CRAFTY PARTIES

Have a creative kiddo or group of friends and looking for a creative place for a gathering or party? We host birthday parties for kids and gatherings for creative adults. We’ll come up with a project based on your interests or you can tell us what you want to make and we’ll go from there.

Parties cost $175 for two hours and include instruction, supplies, and a project to take away. Food isn’t included but you’re welcome to bring treats from home.
